Tag me on Instagram @Lifestyles_With_Deana #aromatichomechef when you recreate my dishes! I love seeing them and they make my day better!

My daughter absolutely loves the flavor of toasted black sesame seeds in ice cream, macrons, donuts and pancakes! She was having a huge craving for black sesame pancakes, so I quickly whipped up some using a premixed pancake mixture. When you have a full-time job and still have to feed your children, you've to have a little help from somewhere. I buy the big giant bag of Krusteaz pancake mix from Costco. I have found that this particular brand is produces the fluffiest and lightest tasting pancakes. However, you can use any brand you have access to. Krusteaz is just my personal favorite.

I also made a black sesame glaze with powder sugar, milk and lemon juice to drizzle over these nutty pancakes. Sprayed some canned whipped cream on top and sprinkled whole black sesame seeds as a garnish. Voila we've got a fancy satisfying breakfast on a weekday! You can pair these pancakes with fresh fruit or for a high protein option, pair with eggs and bacon.

{Ingredients}

Pancakes - Makes 14-15 three inch pancakes.

  • 1.5 cups pancake mix (pre-made)

  • 1 cup water

  • 2 tbsp toasted ground black sesame seeds/powder

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • Cooking oil

Glaze

  • 1 cup powder sugar

  • 1 tbsp toasted ground black sesame seeds/powder

  • 2 tbsp milk

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Other Toppings

  • Whip cream

  • Toasted whole black sesame seeds

{Method}

  1. Add pancake mix, grounded black sesame seeds and sugar into a mixing bowl.

  2. While whisking, slowly add water and mix until smooth. Let the batter sit for 10-minutes to thicken. This will produce a fluffier pancake.

  3. Add powder sugar, milk, ground black sesame seeds, and lemon juice in a small sauce bowl. Mix together until smooth. Cover to prevent hardening.

  4. Heat up a skillet or griddle on medium-high heat. Brush a light layer of oil over the surface. Pour/ladle pancake batter to form a 3-inch circle. Reduce heat to medium. Cook until bubbles appear then flip the pancakes over. Let them cook for one more minute. They are done!

  5. Plate them and drizzle the glaze on top. Add whip cream and sprinkle whole sesame seeds all over for a beautiful effect.
